Wound Care
Wound care is provided at 33% of all Focus Healthcare home visits and 50% of all clients have wound care included as part of their care from Focus Healthcare clinicians. Our wound healing rates are consistently at or better than Australian benchmarks. Reasons for this high standard include the continuous education and training provided to our clinicians and the backing provided by the RDNS wound care specialist: nationally recognised for her expertise.
Wound care takes many forms. The following guide illustrates the skill base required of our nurses to manage:
- Post operative wound care including suture/staples removal and pin site management
- Pressure ulcers and Leg ulcers (including compression bandaging)
- Malignant wounds
- Infected wounds
- Sinuses and fistulae
- New stomas
- Skin tears and
- Skin grafts
Wound care is planned after a careful assessment and inspection of the wound. Care is taken to involve the client, explaining options and planning dressing times to take account of clients’ daily routines and other needs for e.g. mobility, comfort and security. Best practice guidelines are applied in the choice of wound care products and management techniques in conjunction with your doctor.
