Personal Care

At Focus Healthcare we understand that personal care is exactly that (personal). Most of the personal care we provide is to clients with existing or recent illnesses, who have returned home from hospital, or who need support to stay at home. For these people, the need for help with familiar activities such as personal hygiene, dressing and grooming may be not only embarrassing but very frustrating.

Personal care is supervised by Registered Nurses and provided by trained and experienced Home Support Workers (Certificate III in community care and police clearance checked).

Our clients receive personalised, sensitive attention to individual needs AND continual monitoring and help with their ability to become independent of the need for our services.

Focus Healthcare can help with:

• Showering and bathing (including bed baths)
• Sensitive personal hygiene
• Toileting assistance
• Dressing (including choice of clothes)
• Grooming (shaving, hair-styling, make up, nail care)

Personal care is based on a careful assessment of client needs – which may include an assessment of the need for nursing supervision of the client. Priority is given to identifying and following personal hygiene, dressing and grooming routines, with special attention given to ensure that the client feels comfortable, clean and appropriately prepared for the rest of their day.

How to receive personal care from Focus Healthcare

Any person needing personal care can receive it from Focus Healthcare. All that is required is a telephone call to 1300 363 262 (24 hours / day). Our contact centre personnel will process the referral promptly and can advise you of charges and options for payment and any rebates (e.g. from health funds, as part of hospital discharge planning or from the Department of Veterans Affairs (War Veterans).
Once a referral is received our Home Services Coordinator will assign one or more Home Support Workers to provide the services required. The coordinator is responsible for supervision of the personal care you received from Focus Healthcare and for communication with other people who may be involved in your care e.g. a nurse, your GP and your family.

Charges

Focus’ Home Support Coordinator will prepare a personal quote – based on a mutually agreed ‘package’ of personal care services e.g. showering (bathing), grooming, help with toileting, etc. (Health fund, DVA and other rebates may apply).
