Pedicare
For most of our lives cutting finger and toe nails is a task we take for granted. For most of us the way our nails are cut is important. The look of our hands (especially) is enhanced by a neat manicure.
For people who can no longer easily manage their own nail care, untidy nails can snag clothing, trap dirt and easily become unsightly. Uncut toenails can cause discomfort with footwear and discourage walking.
Nail care is part of personal care. Focus Healthcare Home Support Workers are trained to provide a personalised ‘pedicare’ service to clients. Infection control, comfort and the look of the finished manicure are all considered important.
Pedicare services are available to:
- All clients of Focus Healthcare
- As part of an existing program of care and services OR as a discrete service
- Clients under podiatry care who have been referred to Pedicare by their Podiatrist
- Clients without the need for podiatry: on their own referral
Nail care is based on a careful assessment of the client including a review of the need for involvement of a podiatrist. The client is involved as far as possible, with special attention given to ensure that personal grooming preferences and self care are enhanced (free mobility and avoidance of scratches and skin tears).
How to receive Pedicare from Focus Healthcare
Any person needing help with nail cutting can receive it from Focus Healthcare. All that is required is a telephone call to 1300 363 262 (24 hours / day). Our contact centre personnel will process the referral promptly and can advise you of charges and any options for payment and rebates.
Once a referral is received a qualified Home Support Worker will be assigned to your care. This person will regularly manage your nails – to ensure a continuity of the service. They will also stay in communication with other people who may be involved in your care e.g. your GP, podiatrist, carers and your family.
Charges
Focus’ Home Support Coordinator will prepare a personal quote – for basic nail cutting or a more complete service. (Health fund, DVA and other rebates may apply).
