Home Monitoring

(A Focus Healthcare service provided by Doctors Safety Line – DSL)
In advancing years older people still like to maintain their independence - not wishing to burden or worry others. However, it is a fact that with age comes added risks. There is an increase in the likelihood of an emergency situation at home. It can be difficult to recover from a fall. Elderly people may simply feel unwell, insecure, or apprehensive. On these occasions Personal Emergency Monitoring provides reassuring, immediate help.

When the emergency alarm is installed Doctors Safety Line records your medical details and your priorities for emergency help. The decision as to who to call to come to your assistance is entirely your choice. Our emergency call can be to family, friend or neighbour, or to, an ambulance, police or other emergency services. If your medical condition means your first priority is for an ambulance, we will send one. Alternatively, if you would prefer us to call a relative, neighbour, or friend, we will contact them. If we cannot quickly locate the person you nominate we automatically send an ambulance.
Most emergency calls we receive are from callers who have fallen and simply can't get up. Whatever the case, our Monitoring Centre operator will stay on the line with you until help arrives.

How to have personal emergency home monitoring installed'

Any person can have a personal emergency home monitoring system installed by Doctors Safety Line (DSL). All that is required is a telephone call to (08) 8354 0155 or completion of the referral form and delivery (fax to 08 8354 0155 or mail to DSL 51 West Thebarton Road, Thebarton, SA 5031). DSL personnel will process the referral promptly and advise you of charges and options for payment and any rebates (e.g. as part of hospital discharge planning or from the Department of Veterans Affairs (War Veterans).

The personal emergency monitor is demonstrated in your home by fully trained consultants. The demonstration is simple and easily understood. During the demonstration you are connected to our Monitoring Centre, helping you to appreciate just how easy it is to operate. The average time taken for a demonstration is one hour.

Charges

The Personal Emergency Monitor can be rented or purchased outright. There is no minimum contract period. The cost is surprisingly low, particularly when measured against the enduring peace of mind benefits an installation provides, and no bond payment is required. Families may purchase or rent the alarm for the peace of mind that it provides.
